Becoming a Resident

A trained staff member is available every step of the way to assist prospective residents and their family members in making the sometimes challenging move from a private home or apartment to a senior living campus. Offering nursing, in-house physical therapy and an in-house medication program, Francois Bend can also be the right choice for seniors with more serious issues following hospital and/or skilled nursing care. Be sure to explore Francois Bend as an alternative to nursing home care.

 

  1. We encourage you to visit other facilities in your target area.  We believe you will find Francois Bend to be an excellent value in terms of both facilities and services.
  2. Complete a reservation form to reserve your apartment. A $2,000 fee will hold your reservation.
  3. The prospective resident’s physician must complete the evaluation form included in the pre-residency package. This form must be completed within 30 days of move-in. A current TB test or chest X-ray must be supplied prior to move-in. If you do not currently have a physician, Francois Bend will assist you in locating one.
  4. A staff member will assist in calculating your apartment rent plus level of care required plus any additional services selected.
  5. Complete the residency agreement and pre-residency package.
  6. Establish a move-in date. If desired, resources are available to help with downsizing, and moving services.
  7. Settle into your new home. Orientation programs are available for resident and family.
  8. Host a welcome dinner for your family members and friends.

Ways to Afford the Care You Need

The Francois Bend staff and their referral network are available to give you information about a variety of ways to afford the care that you need. One method that you may not be aware of is VA benefits. You can also tap into resources such as life insurance and home equity.

Who Is Eligible for VA Benefits?

A common misconception is that only those veterans who were disabled while serving on active duty are entitled to veterans’ benefits. This type of benefit (known as “compensation”) is available only to those whose disability is connected to the veteran’s service, but it is not the only type of benefit offered. Another type of benefit called the veterans “pension” may be available to help meet the costs of long-term care for wartime veterans or their surviving spouses, even if their current medical needs are not associated with their service. This pension has several eligibility requirements.
Requirements for VA Benefits:
The claimant must be a veteran, or a surviving spouse of a veteran, who served on active duty for a period of at least 90 consecutive days during a period of war. Service in combat is not required, but the veteran must have served during wartime and must have been honorably discharged.
The claimant must be over 65 or be permanently and totally disabled.
The claimant must satisfy both an income and assets test. A veteran or the surviving spouse of a veteran who meets the eligibility requirements for pension may also be entitled to an extra monthly amount if they are “housebound” or in need of the regular aid and attendance of someone else to assist with their activities of daily living.
